FFBH IN GUATEMALA 2014 PROPOSAL

Engly Quiacain is doing several projects: the Pedagogia Basica program and Kinesiology Re-education that will continue in the schools in San Pedro and San Juan.

She is in these school 3 days a week (Mon., Tues., Weds.) from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.

She will spend Thursdays and Fridays in one of the many schools we are starting to work with this year in Panajachel and in Guatemala City. When there is not a distant site to visit, Engly will spend the day working in the San Marcos Schools.

Engly began with 2 weeks of preparation in early February and, in mid-February, began in the classroom with the students. We are offering Re-education, basic Pedagogy and educational support for local students and teachers in an expanded area.

In order to accomplish our goals, we are requesting:

  • Engly Quiacain’s Salary: $200.00 USD per month (Q1500)
  • For February - November ($200 X 10 months = $ 2,000 USD)
  • The population in Tzununa speaks a different indigenous language than Engly and we are asking for a local translator for 3 weeks to make the students feel more comfortable. We are not asking for the translation fees we had last year.
  • Copies, printing and classroom materials = $320.00 USD (Q2,400)
  • Total of $2,200 + $320 = $2,320 USD

FFBH IN GUATEMALA 2013 PROPOSAL

Engly Quiacain is doing one project - The Pedagogia Basica Program and Kinesiology Re-Education. This project is located in Tzununa, a secluded and impoverished village on Lake Aitilan in Guatemala. Ms. Quiacain teaches in the school five days per week from 8:00 am to 12:00. The school has 3 grades; kindergarten (pre-primeria), first (primero), and second (segundo). Each grade has three separate classes. This totals nine classes of 15-20 students per class.

Ms. Quiacain received two weeks of preparation, then began teaching in the classroom with the students. We are offering re-education, basic pedagogy and educational support for local students. Below, you will find Ms. Quiacain´s proposed weekly schedule for all nine classes. Some spaces have been intentionally left blank; these periods of time are allotted for working with individual students and small groups. In the future, Mondays will be used to work with students in grade three and higher. The population in Tzununa speaks an indigenous language; therefore a local interpreter would be utilized for three weeks in order to make the students feel more comfortable with Ms. Quiacain.

In order to accomplish our goals, we are in need of:

  • Engly Quiacain’s Salary: $200.00 USD per month (Q1500) for the months of February through November $2,000.00 USD
  • Local Translator for 3 weeks: $60.00 USD (Q450)
  • Classroom Materials: $320.00 USD (Q2400)
  • TOTAL $2,380.00 USD (4350Q)
